When it comes to that buy-or-ditch decision to be made in the beauty aisle of a store, the scent of the product becomes one of the biggest factors for me. It hasn’t always been easy finding a mostly natural shower gel that also smells a treat, until I’d finally dished out a few extra dollars for a Lush Cosmetics shower gel.
What started out as an impulse buy from their endless collection of shower goodies has now grown into a collection of 5-6 Lush shower gels. From my budding collection of Lush shower gels, I’ve chosen two that have absolutely captured my heart, and hopefully will soon captured yours too (if they haven’t already).
Please note that one of these are actually limited edition products that usually come around once a year, but I absolutely have to include them in this entry because they’re simply too amazeballs to leave out.
And here, I present you… Honey I Washed The Kids and Rose Jam!
Honey I Washed The Kids
Honey/toffee/caramel lovers, this one’s the one for you!
My piece of advice when deciding whether to get this one: Don’t be afraid of the extreme sweetness of the scent at first whiff from the bottle. I decided to get the second smallest size (250g) the first time I bought this, and now I’m almost done with my second bottle… all 500g of that honey-toffee goodness!
It lathers so well, and leaves skin feeling soft and smelling so damn delicious! So delicious that I managed to convince my boyfriend to get some himself (although, he did opt for the solid soap version instead). The scent is very much a mashup of honey, sweet orange and lotus flower. I can’t stress enough how soft it left my skin… It was like nothing I’ve tried before.
The main ingredient – honey, has been used in many beauty recipes and treatments over the ages. It’s a natural cleanser and moisturiser and is rich in antioxidants which helps with anti-ageing… seriously, the health and beauty benefits of honey are aplenty. It’s no wonder that women in ancient times bathed themselves in a milk and honey concoction to keep their skin supple and smooth. And now, the modern day woman (and men!) can get the same effect with a bottle of Honey I Washed The Kids from Lush Cosmetics.
Honey itself is also known to be great for treating dry and damaged hair, which is why it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try this shower gel in your hair too. Although, it doesn’t work too well as a shampoo for my mid-length hair that’s been chemically treated many, many times… I’d much prefer using something specifically from Lush’s hair care range like the Godiva solid shampoo bar (or any of their solid shampoos suitable for your hair type) with their Retread conditioner.
Honey I Washed The Kids is available all year round and if you’re apprehensive about getting it, you can get the smallest 100g size at $A8.50 to try it first. It also comes in a 250g size ($A13.50) and the largest size is $A22.50 for 500g (pictured above).
If you prefer solid soap over a shower gel, look for the solid version of Honey I Washed the Kids in stores and online! 😉
Where do I even begin with this one?
Rose Jam is a limited edition shower gel that graces the Lush shelves about once a year, usually around Christmas time. The pictured 250g bottle has lasted me almost half a year now because you really don’t need much to lather yourself up for a sweet Turkish rose delight.
The scent is to die for! I’m particularly enjoying this one because the rosey scent lingers on your body and then on your clothes for a long time. The blend of argan oil with rose oil and rose absolute leave my skin feeling soft, smooth and smelling luxurious.
Goji berry juice with a dash of Sicilian lemon are the secret ingredients to this uplifting, skin-brightening shower gel.
This one lathers just as well as Honey I Washed the Kids. I like to really lather it into my skin and let it sit while I go on and wash my face in the shower. I find that this lets the scents really settle into my skin, making the rosiness of the shower gel last even longer. I dare say that the scent lasts even longer than some of the perfumes I own. 😉
If shower gels aren’t your thing, or you like to switch things up every now and then come bathtime, then you could also reach for their Rose Jam Bubbleroon or Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner which both carry the same scent. Lush also have an online exclusive going on with several of their signature scents packed in and shipped off as perfumes, and the Rose Jam scent is one of the very few remaining in the online store.
