Godiva is Lush Cosmetics’ 2-in-1 solid shampoo and conditioner that smells of sexy jasmine and is vegan-friendly as well as packaging-free. I thought I’d just give Lush’s solid goodies a whirl, and the scent on this one was just so tantalising, not to mention that it’s meant to be 2-in-1 so what’s a lazy girl like me going to choose? Godiva.
What is it?
This 2-in-1 jasmine shampoo and conditioner contains no animal products of any kind, making it one of the many vegan-friendly choices in terms of Lush hair care. The mix cocoa butter & shea butters along and nut oils tend to dry hair whilst camellia oil tames obnoxious locks. Being a 2-in-1, it’s marketed towards those who just want to wash and go – quicksmart! but still have fabulous hair.
The chunks of cocoa/shea butters are visible and it makes it look a little like a choc chip cookie, huh?! Those visible nuggets of butter are actually the conditioning ingredients of the Godiva solid. It goes soggy so quickly, so I usually take it out of the bathroom and let it sit on a window sill to solidify again. It lathers up well thanks to the sodium lauryl sulfate, much better than Sukin’s botanical shampoo & conditioner.
I won’t lie, besides the fact that Godiva solid is 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, I was even more impressed that the scent resembled the Lust solid perfume (although others say it smells like Flying Fox?) that I knew I had to try it. Made with jasmine absolute, ylang ylang oil, cypress oil, gardenia extract and actual jasmine flowers, it’s hard not to smell like a bouquet of flowers after use.
Did it work?
It took about a couple of weeks to actually see results, however I did incorporate Lush’s jungle solid and the R&B hair moisturiser somewhere along the timeline. My hair was in a sorry state, but after following closely a Lush hair care routine, even the boyfriend realised the changes in the state of my hair. In terms of being a multi-purpose hair care product, I really can’t say it conditions as well as it does shampoos. The nuggets of butters just did not suffice in conditioning my hair, which was why I went back to Lush to get the Jungle solid in the first place!
The cost versus benefits
$13.95 AUD for 55g sounds a little like a hefty pricetag but honestly, I would only get it again when I lop my hair off and is more manageable. Right now, with almost bum-length hair and a lot of dyeing and styling, a trip to the hairdressers is long overdue. It’s definitely a product that’s more suited to those whose hair doesn’t need the extra TLC that Godiva won’t give.
