Beauty Buys: January 2014

January 20, 2014 Beauty Edits Make Up
beauty purchases 2014

Even after swearing to live a little more frugally as part of my new years’ resolutions of 2014, I’ve already spun off with some pretty naughty purchases – especially the Benefit products which are a little pricier than most things I buy. I would stick with making lip balm purchases, but I’ve ran out of lip balms to buy and I just wanted some of these items so bad!

I know, I know! We’re still a little over a week shy of being in February, but I solemnly swear that I am going to control my spending for the rest of the month so here I present you my beauty buys of January 2014. This isn’t even all of it, but these are my most latest purchases so it still sort of counts!

Elizabeth Arden All Gone Eye and Lip Makeup Remover

This was on sale at $9.99 AUD at Chemist Warehouse, and placed strategically on the stand next to the counters which is the main reason I bought it. I’ve gone through my fair share of makeup removers and so far I’m still loving the Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.

This one is described as a ‘two-phase’ makeup remover that gently lifts even transfer resistant and waterproof makeup. We shall see about that one in a few weeks’ time!

I’ve read several reviews on it, and it doesn’t seem very popular. Oh well, I’ll have to judge for myself :)!

Swisspers Organic Cotton Tips

I picked this up from Target for $1.50 AUD and then saw the same pack at Chemist Warehouse for $3. Woohoo for being a frugal shopper (lol)!

Swisspers organic cotton is:

  • 100% certified organic
  • Organic Textile compliant with the Global Organic textile standard (GOTS)
  • Chlorine and dioxin free
  • Fragrance-free
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Eco-friendly & biodegradable

I go through these pretty slowly because I mostly use them to perfect liquid eyeliner booboos.

Aēsop Protective Lip Balm

Many people forget to give their lips a little love when it comes to protecting their skin from the UV rays of the sun. Now I, myself, don’t own very many lip balms with SPF in them so when I figured that I had lost the one that my boyfriend bought me, I took it upon myself to get a new one.

All I can say is, this one is working so well for me. It is absolutely amazing as a lip primer and it doesn’t smell strongly of any one thing. I have so much love for this lip balm, I definitely think it’s here to stay as a beauty staple.

NYX Skinny Marker

I’m on the hunt for a good eyeliner that is pigmented and won’t smudge. I’ve been meaning to buy theBalm’s Schwing liquid liner but every single time I visit David Jones they’re always out of stock.

Hopefully this one isn’t too bad. The last marker liner I owned was one I bought in Hong Kong which was pretty pigmented at the start and then just died on me. I just hate when that happens because I end up sitting there for another 5 minutes going over it repeatedly so that it’s dark enough. Ugh!

Benefit They’re Real & Benetint

I’ve recently become obsessed with the brand but I wish they wouldn’t mark their prices up so high for us Aussies! They’re Real and the Benetint are two of Benefit’s crowdpleasers, and I finally know why. They’re just flawless products that you can’t fault in any way.

I’ve talked about these already in my previous post on the show me the love tin from Benefit cosmetics, so go check that out for more deets. 😉

Benefit Fakeup Concealer

This is not your average concealer in a stick because the actual concealer core is surrounded by a vitamin e and apple seed emollient which is both moisturising and gives a more natural finish.

Teamed with their Stay Don’t Stray primer, it lasts me all day with minimal to no creasing.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe

I find these amazing even without a primer, in fact… I think they’re great AS a primer. I already own ‘Barely Branded’ and ‘Electric Blue’, which both work so well as a highlighter and eyeliner respectively.

Tough as Taupe is different from the other two I have because it doesn’t have the metallic shimmer. I’m so excited to use it as a base for my eyeshadow… I was trying to decide whether or not to buy Audacious Asphalt as well (which is a bit of a gunmetal grey with a little more shimmer). I kind of just.. want the whole collection now though.

Much love,
