2013 in Retrospect: Taylor Swift’s RED tour

Taylor Swift’s RED album is the soundtrack of my year. So when I saw her announcement via YouTube that she was going to be touring Australia, I dropped everything and scrambled to get tickets to see her show at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.

Neon Trees and Guy Sebastian were the two guest artists that played before Taylor Swift made her grand entrance with the first track on the album – ‘State of Grace’. I went with a few of my uni friends, and we were all just too starved to care too much about the first few acts. Food at big events are always such a rip-off! It costed $5 AUD for a small cup of fries, and water was about the same. Just crazy!

My camera also died in the early arvo, so I had to resort to using my phone camera :(. For this reason, there’s no photos on my phone that are worthy of uploading (which sucks!).

You know how I always go on about how nice it is to know that you’re not alone when you’re going through hard times? Yeah, well that is what it’s like for me and all the songs on the RED album. Every single track would have at least one line that I can relate back to my year, and that is why this is the album of 2013 for me. Taylor also explained the way she comes up with ideas when she writes her songs, and I could relate to her because blogging to me has always been a way of expressing my feelings without having to see how other people react to it. It has allowed me to stop caring about what other people want for a second, and just focus on how I feel.

I’ll start with All Too Well, the track that describes the helplessness you feel after getting dumped by someone who you thought was ‘the one’. You know how people tend to look back on the good times after their relationship has ran its course? Or trying to pick out what really went wrong that drove your relationship off the edge? This is the song for it!

And maybe we got lost in translation
Maybe I asked for too much
But maybe this thing was a masterpiece
´til you tore it all up

I’m a bit bummed that she didn’t play I Almost Do, because that song described all those times that I wanted contact my ex even after knowing all the shit that he had done, and finding out how different he became after we broke up. But in hindsight, it was so silly of me to even think that it would all work out in the end. Anyways, if Taylor performed that track… I would have just bawled my eyes out on the spot :).

When she played Begin Again, I couldn’t help but feel my eyes well up. It’s so scary how realistic her lyrics are, and how relateable I found them. These are the lines that just got my emotional energy on overdrive because I didn’t expect to find love so soon after my ex:

I’ve been spending the last 8 months
Thinking all love ever does
Is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe
I watched it begin again

Seeing the RED tour was the best way to finish off the year 2013. And I look forward to hearing Taylor Swift’s future releases, because the RED album is pretty hard to beat!

Much love,
